The Klamath Tribes are a confederation of three distinct peoples who have lived in the Klamath Basin for millennia: the Klamath, the Modoc, and the Yahooskin (Paiute).
They lived in the high desert plateau, surrounded by the Cascade Mountains, managing the land through fire, fishing the great lakes and rivers for C'waam (Sucker fish) and C'iyaal's (Salmon), and gathering wocus (pond lily seeds).
(Eukshe) "People of the Lake". They lived primarily around the Upper Klamath Lake, Klamath Marsh, and Williamson River. They were master fishermen and basket weavers.
(Moatokni) "People of the South". Lived in the Tule Lake and Lower Klamath Lake areas. Known for their resilience and the tragic Modoc War of 1872-73 in the Lava Beds.
A band of Snake Paiute people who lived east of the Yamsi Mountain in the high desert. They were skilled hunters and gatherers adapted to the arid landscape.
